Menu Plan Monday: 3/26 - 3/31

I so desperately need to go to the grocery store today, but I am going to try to squeak by for one more day.  The REASON, Monday is not my normal shopping day, but more than that.  Last week I went on Monday, again not my normal shopping day, and the produce had, obviously, NOT been re-stocked from the weekend sales.  My stores sales run from Sunday to Saturday.  The selection was pitiful, meat was o.k., but I was completely frustrated with the amount of things on my shopping list that I did not get.  So I am going to squeak by one more day and go tomorrow.

Please share with me... what is the best grocery shopping day for you?

Here is my menu for this week:

Monday ~ BBQ Chicken and Mac and Cheese
Tuesday ~ Taco's
Wednesday ~ Homemade Pizza
Thursday ~  Spiced Pork Chops (I post the recipe in a future post, time is a little short this week)
Friday ~ Leftovers
Saturday ~ we will be eating out.

Extreme Table Decorating

This weekend was the annual Women's Retreat at our church. This was my second year attending and just like last year the table decoration were ... well.... just, UNBELIEVABLE.

A little background during the registration for the retreat they ask for volunteers to decorate a table. You can do it as a team or by yourself.  That's it.  Here is the result you giving creative people a blank slate...  beautiful

I believe this one got second place

This table was a themed after one of the missions to Niger, Africa.

 This was the winner!

But truly they were all wonderful, next year I will make a point of  take more pictures!!!  Our pastor even joked that next year they will have to call in the building inspector to make sure we weren't in voliation! HA!

Bedroom Closet Re-do

This is completely embarrassing!
It get's better, the only reason I am posting these pictures.

This project required me to totally shift my thinking about my closet.  As I revealed in this post, the clutter and disorganization of my closet was spilling over into my dresser and my bedroom floor.  I guess, I finally came to the end of my rope.  And after the umpteenth... (or umphundreth) time my husband ask were is my.....  I finally got the clue.  This is NOT working.  So I cleaned everything out.

Hint: most of this stuff did not belong in the closet
Well, except for my husbands clothes, I was able to just re-arrange them and stuff like his ties and hats well I made him sort through those. Why make extra work for myself, right?

After taking everything out,  I purged out things that don't belong in a bedroom closet. Like the sleeping bags that should be with the camping supplies. The box that I thought had videos in it, it did not, it had sewing supplies, garden flags and misc. crafting stuff, most of which I am donated to our church mission yard sale, some did get tossed.  Two bags of  just my clothes were donated. Woo Hoo!  Feeling better already.

Here is the part of my "re-thinking" how to use my closet.  When I was younger, I lost more sweaters, blouses, shirts to those old wire hangers.  They would poke holes or I would get those "shoulder bumps" were the fabric was stretched out. UGH! So my solution was to put everything in my dresser and I only hung up dresses or dresser clothes.  Problem, my dresser ran out of space.

The solution and my light bulb moment: GET BETTER HANGERS... duh.

So I did. Oh, I also got a sweater organizer similar to this one:

This has allowed me to move most of my wardrobe into my closet and use my dresser as a back up or even for my "off season" clothes.  I have been living this way for a week and I am loving it.  I can walk in my closet and see, for the most part,  ALL of my clothes. No discovering long lost shirts at the bottom of the drawer.  It is all there.  Not to mention it takes me a quick second to hang up my clothes or throw it in the laundry at the end of the day.  The other benefit..... less wrinkles.

Here is the AFTER:

Well, there it is! It's not perfect but it sure is a ALOT better and I am enjoying my new system.

Preparing for our Spring Planting

Today, we made major progress in getting the ground ready to receive our spring plantings. I am giddy with delight.  The titling was done ...

Notice the green row behind the steak, that is left over from last fall.  We attempted, but failed, to plant collards, broccoli, and some lettuce. Well, the rabbit got through the fencing... ugh.  Anyway, needless to say we were delighted to see a few of the collard plants hanging on.  We are going to leave them to see if we can get a harvest.

Here's what we are getting ready to plant, probably on Monday, plus we have a few things we will plant from seed. Stay tuned!

Time To Organize the Bedroom Closet

Well, I am not complete finished with the laundry/utility room reorganization, but major progress has been made and I need to take a break to get fresh perceptive.  Also, to continue would require me to start taking a serious look at my kitchen and I am just not ready to do that, YET.

So I decided to take some "me" time.  By this I mean focus on my bedroom, specifically my closet .  I found this video which has given me a starting point.

Isn't it amazing how the simplest thing can cause you to rethink the way you have done something all your life? I have to confess, more of my clothes end up on the floor than in the dresser or closet. However, it has occurred to me the reason is because I am not using the space that I have to its full potential. I mean I have cleaned out my closet before, I have purged. I have sorted seasons, but the problem always returns. My dresser also is busting at the seams, which is why some of my clothes at any given time are either on my floor or in the laundry basket next to my dresser.

Well I am ready to look at the problem with fresh eyes. Let's see were this goes.

Here is a before picture that I tweeted out this morning:

My First Garden Post

Over the course of the last 4 years our garden has grown from a little 5' x 5' square that I planted a few veggie plants and was the sole care taker to last year were we had a 40' x 50' area of garden that is now a full blown family project.  Last year was the first year we had a "serious" garden. This year we are going to have a serious garden with a blog!

I thought it would be fun to start the garden post off with a look back to last year. Despite, rabbits, moles, a woodchuck and Hurricane Irene we harvested a large bounty.

This was the harvest we had waiting for us when we returned from our vacation.

Sunflowers are so fun to grow! Unfortunately only 2 survived out of 20 seeds we planted, first they were attacked by the rabbits eating the leaves.  These two had enough leaves left that they were able to rebound, but we lost them in Hurricane Irene.

We had banana peppers and green peppers they were awesome!  In fact, we were eating our garden peppers well into December.  We also had tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, zucchini, squash, eggplant and basil.

We have been planning our 2012 garden and are very excited to see what the season will bring.

Menu Plan Monday: My First Time

Saturday's Project: Laundry Room Cabinet

If you remember in this post, I described my laundry room/mud room/utility room.  It was basically a dumping ground for things I did not want in the kitchen and/or items that needed to go to the garage.  Also, if you will remember, this serves as the back entry to our house.  The main entry that the family uses, so imagine coming home everyday and the first thing you see, a room of clutter.  Needless to say it was wearing on me, but progress has been made.  I have tamed the cabinet that is the utility part of the room. Here are the before and after pictures.

Now, mind you I am not a "natural" organizer and the concept of putting things into containers is a relatively new concept for me and I love it.  This is my first attempt at sorting and putting like with like. *gasp* I know what can I say, I am a late bloomer.

Silly me, I forgot to take a before picture of the bottom half of the cabinet, but trust me it looked very much like the top half. Here is my after pictures:

I would just like to point out a few things in the cabinet that might look odd. The stack of tile, belongs to the house and I am not moving it so I am just working around it. (We Rent).   The container with the "grass" like substance....  it is timmy hay.  Did I mention we have guinea pigs?  I will certainly be talking about them in future post.

That's is it for today.
